Maria Baez
María is a singer, illustrator, print maker and visual artist who has been working and living in Dublin 8 for six years since leaving Madrid where she grew up. Her work, in both singing and the visual arts, she focusses on how stories are communicated and through them, communities and cultures are created. María’s work on singing pedagogies has focused on kinaesthetic approaches that situate the voice within the body and improve pitch through corporeal awareness. In her visual arts practices, she has used a mixture of digital and analogue techniques in illustration and screen printing to create various prints, zines, and illustrations that comment on placemaking and communities.
María has exhibited in Ireland, Spain and France and has a particular reputation for her work on Dublin 8 including the exhibition series A Matter of Time, that focussed on the ways in which time is experienced differently in the range of shops and sites of labour that make up the locale. She is also a huge fan of Silvia Pérez Cruz.
