FACADE ENHANCEMENTS

The ongoing architectural art installations on the facade of La Catedral Studios offer the local community a window into the creative processes of our resident artists. These vibrant works breathe new life into the historic character of our building, adding color and energy to the surrounding streetscape. One standout element is our planter box design, conceptualized by in-house artist Fionn Clissmann, featuring stylized, enlarged fingerprints from a variety of studio artists—a tactile tribute to the hands behind the art.

Also, as part of our 2024 art intervention, we introduced a multicolored, solar-powered lighting installation that complements our artistic signage and expanding greenery project, bringing dynamic illumination to the building by night.

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to launch a new facade improvement focused on the currently unused panelled window above our entrance. In collaboration with in-house photographer Fabio Grassi, we will unveil The Artist Eye—a photographic installation featuring close-up portraits of our artists’ eyes, each capturing the individuality and depth of the people who work within.

We aim to give the local community a sense of the creative energy that lives within our walls by transforming the exterior of our building into a reflection of the artistic work happening inside. While La Catedral Studios is a private space and not typically open to the public, our evolving facade and series of architectural interventions serve as a public-facing canvas, offering a continuous, multimedia experience for all to enjoy, day or night.

These ongoing facade enhancements and art installations have been partially supported by the Shopfront Improvement Scheme, in partnership with DCC and the Liberties Business Forum.

INDOOR ART INTERVENTIONS

La Catedral Studios also fosters the creation of indoor art interventions done by in-house and visiting artists. This is art designed specifically to interact with the existing structure of the building.

Mexican, Dublin-based artist Gabriela Joyce conceptualized and designed the b&w logo on the entrance door, along with the colorful design to add a dramatic transformation to the entry staircase.

Studios’ co-founder Antonella Scanu co-created a series of narrative collage works on wooden panels - each telling a unique story, each part of a larger vision. Her work and vision anchor the building’s character and atmosphere through her Vaudevile-inspired panels, which are complemented by other contributions from various artists throughout the building.

Visiting American artist Ally O’Brien is the creative force behind a staggering mural depicting our Studios’ Cat Ophelia, transforming a neglected wall into a marvel of lush, vibrant greenery to match the Studios’ garden area.
