Isabelle Ryan
Isabelle is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in the medium of paint. She uses photography in her work, as a vehicle for research and also as a medium for artwork. She has previously used installation and sound as elements of her practice, as a method of capturing atmosphere and creating an immersive experience for viewers. She graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2019 with a BA, first class honours degree in Fine Art Painting with Visual Culture.
Isabelle Ryan’s work deals with the sensory and atmospheric qualities of space. Examining a variety of architectural settings and objects, and rendering them through the mediums of painting, photography and installation.
Through a process of contemplation, the subject is chosen and isolated. Ryan creates a sense of atmospheric tension and silence in her paintings and photography, thus drawing on the unspoken connection between the objects and those who interact with them. The result is a delicate push and pull, between abstraction and thoughtful focus.
