Fionn McQueen

The focus of Fionn’s painting practice is based on the story of an image. What can an image portray? He chooses a moment and deconstructs it, whether it is a photo or a memory. It does not matter, as the image is to be destroyed and turned into a monochrome depiction of black lines on white.

From this position, he reconstructs the image, but with a passion absent from its original form. He infuses all of his past experience into the construction. An image is built with colour, showcasing an atmosphere of emotion. He focuses on the character of characters, from their gaze to their position.

Fionn’s work uses colour to flow through their figures, creating tones of emotion and place within the scene. His reconstructions allow the viewer to become intimate with the scenario. An image is transformed into an experience. Like a memory, it is somewhat misty.
