The Fingerprints is an architectural installation on the façade of La Catedral Studios, offering the local community a window into the creative processes of our resident artists. These vibrant works breathe new life into the historic character of the building, adding color and energy to the surrounding streetscape.
At the heart of the project is the planter box design, conceptualized by in-house artist Fionn Clissmann, featuring stylized, enlarged fingerprints from a variety of studio artists, a tactile tribute to the hands behind the art. The floral motifs were inspired by a teapot present in the studios, while the shapes themselves draw from improvisations by jazz musician Jennifer McMahon, translated into paint. The entire composition was first modeled in 3D, creating a detailed plan of the building so the fingerprints could be precisely visualized within the plant pots before installation, ensuring a harmonious integration with the architecture.
This façade enhancement and art installation has been partially supported by the Shopfront Improvement Scheme, in partnership with DCC The Liberties Business Forum.
