Helen is a knitter, sewist, designer and teacher based in La Catedral Studios in central Dublin.

She first learned to knit and sew at six years old, and after many years as a hobbyist, she made the leap to selling her handmade work in 2012. This was followed by a move into teaching in 2018, and nothing makes her happier than watching her students go from taking their first tentative stitches to proudly holding up a successfully completed project.

She is also a strong advocate of the many benefits that making things by hand, and especially hand knitting, can offer to those burned out by too much screen time and seeking to take a more slowly-paced, sustainable approach to life in general, and fashion in particular.

Knit With Helen

Founded in 2018, Knit With Helen offers weekly knitting classes to students of all levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a more experienced knitter who just needs help through a tricky section of a pattern, Helen will teach you the skills you need to complete your project… And help get you started on the next one!

As well as her studio-based teaching for individuals, Helen regularly works with larger groups, including regular night class courses at Malahide Community School, and facilitates corporate and promotional events, with past clients including Google, Salesforce and Lyons Tea.

Helen also runs an online store from her space in La Catedral Studios, which sells a range of yarn, knitting needles, books and accessories from Ireland and further afield.

CrawCrafts Beasties

Helen is the designer and maker behind the Beasties, hand-knitted, one-of-a-kind monster dolls with handmade clothes and accessories. Inspired by a childhood love of monsters, cartoons and mythological creatures, the Beasties started life as a way for Helen to make use of odd scraps of leftover yarn. When friends and family started asking her for personalised ones, she realised the idea’s potential and signed up for her first market. She’s been making monsters ever since – find them online and at seasonal craft fairs around Dublin.
